I just wanted to share with everyone a craft idea that was in one of my favorite magazines. Family Fun , issue September 2004, page 28
A Dose of Dowsing Try your hand at a centuries-old water trick Long before modern equipment, people in search of new water sources tried dowsing, a practice that uses a stick or metal rods to find water hidden underground. Exactly how it works is still unknown, but some believe the dowsing rods are attracted to the water. For fun, have our child try out this ancient activity himself. You'll need two 24-inch lengths of soft copper refrigerator tubing. Bend each rod at a 90-degree angle 4 inches from one end. Now head outside and have your child loosely hold the rods by their short sections. He should then walk around the yard with them at about waist level, parallel to the ground and pointing ahead of him. If the rods cross, as the theory goes, he's probably passed over an underground water source.
We are going to give this a try the next time we go to home depot and get the materials. We actually had a man come up and locate where to drill our well by dowsing. We know where our main water line runs so i'm gonna see how they make out!
Happy Dowsing! Heather
