Hi- Right now my routine is just biolglo cream and accupressure/massage/heat. I was getting boob hirsuitism (actually, everywhere hirsuitism) so I added about 800 mg of SP. Also, I have really bad acne that is new, it started a little over 7 months ago when I started EPO. I dropped the EPO but the acne stayed! After I started SP the acne got a little bit better. So I'm thinking, with the hair and acne, and slight response to SP, I must be converting everything to androgen. How else can I block androgen, is SP the only way? Should I double my SP intake? My acne cycle is this: best right before my period, then a few pimples show up during my period, and by two weeks into my cycle, my face is a wreck. Hormones help, anyone? Thanks, Neena

Hi Neena, Just a suggestion, and I am sure you will get more! It looks like you need to up your SP slowly. To a final of about 2g daily. I was accidently on 6g daily, and didn't notice any side effects. So 2g should be a good dosage for you. I have had problems with EPO also, I was only on 1g daily and having cramping. Went off the EPO and cramping stopped. So...that's the story. A lot of people have posted about acne with EPO, so me thinks it's a common side effect. Bust of Luck, Momi'

From: fern Sent: 7/6/2003 12:26 PM Hello Neena, I have hirsutism and acne too. I use Diane 35, it had cyproterone acetate, a powerful anti- androgen... I heard spironolactone is good too. Diane works well. It reduced my hirsutism, oiliness and controlled but not eliminated my acne. I get lots of info at the forum at www.acne.org. it's a great site. I'm trying to reduce refined carbs and control carb intake because I read some really good threads on this: acne.org/messageboard/viewtopic.php?t=1950&highlight= Hope i helped!

Hi Neena, I don't know if you remember me or not. I was a member of Bob's NBEboard and used his 'protocol' and got serious acne(even all over my back). I never had acne during puberty. Seems like lots of things trigger it now: EPO, DHEA, Pregnenalone, sugar.... Anyway SP has really helped clear it up when nothing else would. After 6 weeks of SP use I finally have clear skin again. I gradually increased my dose to 3g/day. Personal experience and sympathy is all I can offer. Hope it helps. Nanette

Hello Neena I hope all is well with you. Sorry about your acne problem I have the same type of problem as you do. I convert everything to androgen too... Several months ago, I went to see my dermatologist because I was so d**n tired of this acne ruining my face!! He prescribed me Spirinolactone (generic name for Aldactone). It is an efficient androgen-blocker. It has helped decrease the amount of oil on my face tremendously and got me waaay better skin! I think this medication was a very helpful addition to BE. I grew so quick and I think that it was greatly due to that spirinolactone. You can buy that medication without prescription, but I would strongly suggest you see a dermatologist before using this! Take care Marie

Meliss, Its internal - a prescription pharmaceutical. Generally used for in-transition transgenders (MTF) so they can grow breasts. It DOES sound tempting, doesn't it? : ) Fawn

Fawn, I have just read some of the side effects of this drug. Even though they may be rare, the side effects are still a threat, so I press onward on to a natural cure for hairy women! Melissa

I don't blame you - you won't find me using it. I'm known for my pharmaceutical translations into herbal meds - stick with the saw palmetto. Fawn

Dear Fawn , I didn't know spirinolactone was intended for the use of in-transition transgenders The only reason why I know about it it's because my mom uses this to treat high-blood pressure. She was prescribed that by a doctor. I found out later that her medication is also a powerful anti-androgen. Since I used to have VERY bad skin, I asked my dermatologist about spirino.Ever since I've been using it, I have had WAY less acne on my face! Anyway, since it's also used for transgender people, no wonder why I've been having so fast results with BO!! Thanks for the information! Marie

From: Marie_Th_1 Sent: 7/8/2003 7:03 AM Hello Melissa This medication is certainly not for everybody! That's for sure! It's very powerful stuff. I haven't had any problem though...The only thing that happened to me is that my skin has become way less oily and way less acneic!! Anyway, you should just stick with SP as Fawn recommended it. It's not worth to take health risk just for BE. But, I suppose that this med must be very unattractive to you after you've read this article Take care and good luck with BE Marie

Hi all- thanks for the responses. my plan right now is to stick with the SP. if i get to 3g's and am still having problems i will see a dermatologist. i was interested in spirinowhatever but when it lists the foods you are to avoid while taking it, it basically listed my entire diet! d'oh. so i am pulling for the SP to work. right now i am sitting here with a face mask on because my skin is so disgusting. oddly enough, it isn't very oily-- it's combination, dry and patchy in some places, but still broken out! hopefully the SP will work out, THANK YOU all so much for the imput. i work with high school kids and they all have better skin and bigger boobs... (the teachers all have little/regular boobs, the kids are all stacked. and i mean ALL....and i mean STACKED. how weird is that??) anyway it can be a little depressing but it's nice to come home and see all these responses. thanks, neena PS-- NANETTE!! of course i remember you! i hope you are OK. it's nice to see you on the board again
