Hi all, I've done a search and can't find any reference to Maca. Has anyone tried it? I need some help for the libido especially since I'm taking SP. Does anyone know if there are any contraindications with the usual BE herbs or if it would stall any BE efforts? Thanks, gigi

Hi Gigi, Long time no hear from:( Glad to see ya';D I tried Maca, didn't notice much a difference in ANY department, accept it doesn't seem to mix well with SP for me. I had a 30 day extended period due to it. It was mainly spotting, but at times enough to need padded protection. Yeah...I love wearing a mouse mattress for 30 days. Needless to say I gave up the Maca, took a bit for my body to readjust. But...obviously it did do sumptin' to my hormonal balance. It could very work very well for you and your libido. For me...not much.

Here are some links for you and a tidbit of info on its use - however, most are of course trying to sell it: www.rain-tree.com/maca.htm (best one - very detailed information) www.wholeworldbotanicals.com/info_royalmaca.html (also quite detailed) www.macaweb.com/www.peruvian-maca.com/Also, from www.fibrocystic.com/ (a John Lee, M.D. site) "Maca, a cruciferous Peruvian Herb, also seems to have a progesterone effect and is used by Peruvian M.D.'s.... it has been used for centuries, or even thousands of years for female problems, and male erection problems... Maca has been anecdotally been successfully used to treat Natural Progesterone failures." Take care, Twilightsrose

Thanks Momi and Twilightsrose, Hmm, makes sense that you had trouble with the maca if it was progestogenic, Momi. You had a similar reaction to SP while on break. It seems that there's a real need for "checks and balances" when manipulating hormones. Apparently there's a range that has to be maintained or the scales "tip" a bit too much. Thanks for both your responses to my query. gigi
