As someone who was on depo provera for about a year or so, its kinda hard for me to recommend it due to my personal experiences with it. When I first started on it, I was fine. I was dealing with really light periods to no periods when I was on it which was great cause I just didn't like bleeding for a week every month. I had to get the shot in my hip but it can be administered in the arm(reason for my shot being there is because at the time I was barely 95lbs and mind you I was 19-20 years old at the time). You have to keep track of when the injection clinic is open since this is a medication you cannot administer yourself. I gained about 25 lbs when I was on it(granted yeah I needed the meat on my bones). I lost my libido while on the shot as well and I had a pretty decent libido at my age. I also ended up being horribly depressed(moreso than usual, i'm talking I was crying pretty much every night over stupid crap I wouldn't normally cry over) which when this happened, I decided not to deal with it anymore and switched over to the patch. One of the main side effects is lighter/no periods/spotting and weight gain. I was advised by my doctor to let her know if I got extremely depressed when on this.
As for oral contraceptive and not being to concieve after going off of them, most doctors will tell you to wait a year after you get off of birth control before trying to concieve. Honestly, I recommend just using other forms of contraceptive like condoms since oral, the shot and the patch don't protect against STDs. Oddly enough, I remember a study they've done where women who had taken oral birth control and then stopped to have children have had a better sucess rate at concieving than those who had not.

i looked into depo provera, and the reason i ultimately decided against it was calcium loss from bones. if you just look up "depo provera bone", you'll find a bunch of stuff. It is irreversible loss of the bone density. While you can definitely afford to lose some bone density without any ill effect, im sure too much will make your bones brittle, or break more easily. I'm not sure, maybe ask a doctor about it (and tell me the answer! )

Yeah you basically have to take calcium suppliments when you're on depo since I had to do this when I was on it.
