Hi Satu
Massage ;D
Get a good protein reconstructant conditioner, apply it to your scalp with soft stroking movements, then, using the pads of your fingers do a deep kneading movement in a circular direction, picking up and kneading the scalp, work from front to back. Try and do this as often as you can as it stimulates the muscles & nerves, improving the blood circulation. A good scalp massage takes about 15 minutes. It will encourage hair growth and leave you hair in really nice condition.

Saw Palmetto may help if the hair loss is related to hormones.

there are tons of essential oils that help to accelerate hair growth. peppermint, rosemary, sage, cederwood, Emu Oil are some big ones. You can also do a 5min massage starting from the back of your head, behind your ears and move forward to the hair line at the front of your head. a great hair growth suppliment is perfect spiral. it has the recommended dosage all the ingredients that helps hair to grow faster and healthier. Its very good stuff and beats buying all the suppliments in individual capsules. www.perfectspiral.com/home.html

Hey Satu, IRON!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In terms of hair (not to mention nail) health I cant stress its importance enough. I dont know what exactly the problem is that your having, but when I dont take iron supplements then my hair falls out like crazy!!! Same is true for my Mom. Within taking a week of taking it you should notice far less hair loss in the shower (or when you brush) and eventually an over all healthier look, as well as drastic improvments in your cuticles and nails.
Love Pepe!

i agree satu, i like my hair when it's long. i didn't even know about all these healthy hair tips. i think it's awesome since i have a problem with "shedding" all the time. but i figured it was 'cause my hair is already long so i was just pulling it out by the tangles. but either way, i think i am giving the cats some "shedding competition". thank you for the helpful info everybody.

Satu,
Ana causes major increases in the hormone cortisol, which can indeed totally screw up your hair. You may want to consider cycling licorice for adrenal support at some point.
Also, hair does grow back - so do give it some time and take at a minimum a multi-vitamin/mineral supplement. As long as you're in recovery and eating your minimum calories and gaining weight back, your hair will grow back fine. Hair grows at an average of .5" per month, so give it some time.
Another weirdness about Ana is that the cortisol destroys muscle too, so make you're getting plenty of protein while you're adding calories.
Did it fall out or break off? If it fell out, you're better off with a daily scalp massage than the conditioner.
BTW - congrats on recovery!

"Shedding" can be caused by a couple of things - 1) you just weaned a baby. 2) thyroid problem and 3) mercury toxicity.
Rule out one and then look at 2 - test your temps. If fine, consider a mercury detox.

Hey Fawn, Im interested in mercury overload and its relation to hair loss since after surgery a couple years ago my naturopath diagnosed me with having to much mercury in my system and and put me on The Diet from Hell. It was so rough that I only made it to 4 weeksinstead of 6 and so im wondering what one would do to rid their system of mercury in the least drastic way possible. Also, how to know if adrenals need supposrt?

Since Fawn mentioned cortisol...my hair got awfully thin due to my being hyperadrenal. What fixed it was PhosphatydalSerine. This is only indicated if you have too much cortisol. For too little (being hypo, not hyper) then licorice root would be the thing, this is according to my nutritionalist. The other hair tip to keep in mind especially for vegetarians is the ballance between sulpher and zinc. If you do alot of tofu or soy, you're probably getting too much sulpher which can make hair thin. I stopped tofu completely (though I still do occasional tempe) and started suplimenting zinc. Lots of my hair density has restored. I've always wondered if the use of soy isoflavinoids (sp!) could likewise tweek the sulpher ballance. Any insights? Thanks, Gopi

Pepe,
You might want to try something called "Heavy Metal Cleanse" by Renew Life - they're formulated for detoxing mercury & lead. My mercury detox was identified and treated by a homeopath, who compounded custom remedies for me.
Adrenal exhaustion presents as morning and late afternoon fatigue, low blood pressure and sometimes vertigo.
No comments about the tofu/tempe debate as I'm not a vegetarian and when provoked cannot honestly NOT recommend a vegetarian diet for health. Religious purposes, yes, after all - I'm a Buddhist. But for health, I can't recommend a vegan diet - lacto/ovo vegetarian, yeah maybe - with cautions.
