Does anyone know about any English Mastiff puppies for sale in the Midwest? I am in Indiana, but would be willing to travel a little bit to pick one up. Also, needing one affordable. I will not pay a large amount for a dog I am not going to breed or show. I have been looking for one for quite some time now, but am not having much luck. And since alot of breeders don't advertise their litters, I thought maybe one of you may know of someone who could assist me with my search of a new baby. These dogs are massive in size, but they are the most adorable, loving dogs I have ever been around. Anyone have any ideas....please let me know...post here or send me a PM. Thanks, Kelly

We've been looking for a dog, too! Since you are not going to breed or show, you may want to try one of the rescue organizations. There are "purebred" rescue organizations - usually a collaboration of people who already have that breed - who work together to get them adopted out. Take a look at www.petfinder.org You may find an English Mastiff rescue group in the area. You can't always get EXACTLY what you want - maybe a slightly older pup - but they are all in need of homes, and usually pretty reasonable (as well as having neuter/spayed, microchipped, full immunizations & any medications already taken care of). Just had to jump in on the dog thread. I love big dogs. I have a Great Pyrenees and my sis inlaw has Tibetan Mastiffs and my mom pet sits a mastiff, but I'm not sure what kind and we are in the mid atlantic anyway. I assume you did an internet search. I typed in English Mastiff Puppies Midwest and got www.mtnvalley.net/education_center/mastiffs.htm among some other sites. This one in particular had a lot of links. Do keep us posted on the puppy. Good Luck. tea

Thanks Tea! Some of the info on that site I had not seen yet. Good information though! Many thanks! I have always had large dogs, but never a mastiff. We had a St. Bernard when I young and many rotts after that. These dogs are just so adorable. The one thing that bothers me is the fact that it's been a while since I have had a dog. The other places we lived wouldn't allow pets, so I was always out of luck. I love puppies, just hate training them...lol.....and of course the dog I want drools...but most can't shoot em as high as the St.Bernards do...ours would sometimes sling em up to the ceilings! Talk about gross! You had to watch your head in the house, dripping drool everywhere! LOL Thanks again, Kell

Hey Kelly, I just wanted to wish you luck in your dog search. Funny you should mention it, because I have recently become FIXATED on the idea of getting a dog, too! I always used to be a "cat" person, but I've just fallen in love with dogs. My dream is to get a pug, but that won't happen till I move to a new apartment that allows pets. So, I am reading up and learning what I can in the meantime!
I think Mastiffs are incredible! I hope you find one at a good price. Keep us posted!
Lucy

Here's another site that might be of some help..just happened to see this in a 'help-urself' section of a magazine. This is locate a rescue group who keeps and sells breeds for $100 donation: www.akc.org/breeds/rescue.cfm Appears that you can call them for more info, too. 919-233-9767. Good luck..maybe you'll be a 'lucky dog'
