Hi Fawn and everyone, We know that coconut oil is good for thyroid. But it seems cocout oil is very good for consumption for hair also. In India people apply coconut oil on hair and scalp and it is supposed to be excellent conditioner for hair. They apply oil in and leave it on oevrnight and next day shampoo the hair. It is supposed to do some magic to hair, make it thick and shiny.
I plan to start doing that too.

Yep - if your hair is thick and dry, coconut oil is great. My fine Irish hair won't stand up to it, but I do use a leave-in conditioner with a small amount of coconut oil in it. Great for dry skin too. And good for hair & skin inside & out. As for leaving overnight - make sure you use pillowcases you aren't fond of. Fawn

How much should u use? Never heard of this b4, but I do have thick hair that tends to always be dry. I have been looking for something to use...that would actually work for my hair...lol... Also, how often would u use it? Would this be something used once a week or more? Kelly

hi kelly, depending on the lenght of your hair, you could use 2-3 teaspoonfuls.
You could even warm the coconut oil so that it is easily absorbed by the scalp.
I usually apply it around twice a week. I don't apply it overnight. I warm coconut oil in microwave and apply it on hair and wash it 1-2 hrs after that. If have to leave it on overnight, I put an old towel on my pillow and sleep on that. But i am too lazy to do that and one prefer the one hr application method.
Massage the oil properly in the scalp sp that it is absorbed completely.
I also use coconut oil as a protectant to my hair when I go for swim. I apply coconut oil and then rinse my hair before jumping into the pool. And then I come out and shampoo. My hair does not dry out and becoem hard from chlorine which it otherwise used to.

That's a great idea about using it before swimming!
