My hubby and I have recently discovered he is going bald! He is normally not a vain person, but the combination of this and getting ready to turn 40 has really got him freaked out. Does anyone know of any natural treatments for thinning hair? Does Saw Palmetto help? Any tips would be greatly appreciated!!

ditto. hubby and i are semi estranged at the moment, but on decent terms. he is worried about this also. alas, he is not very attractive, looks tons older than he is already. hair loss, in his case, is devastating. good question. thanks. tea

Google turned up some interesting links...here's a couple [ftp]http://www.sainiherb.com/[/ftp] and [ftp]http://www.bsog.org/balding-treatment.htm[/ftp] Apparently, men loss hair with too much DHT kept in the scalp. SP berries helps block that also, internally, but I have no idea the dosage, or what's happened when someone has tried... Hopefully Fawn will jump in on this one...but until then..Google urself silly!

Well, technically saw palmetto is supposed to help because of the DHT issue - but with Rogaine as cheap as it is, even available in generic, you might want to make it a double pronged approach. We've recently put hubby on sp for prostate - crossing fingers. Luckily hair isn't an issue, so I'll keep him. My old hairdresser used to also swear by a product called "Hairseptic" for it, to at least keep the sebum buildup from making it worse. You can probably get it at Sally's or other beauty outlet

I have an old lotion recipe for hair loss that helps more often than not. It's a decoction, ingredients quoted for a liter of dry white wine (a cheap chardonnay will do), all of the following should be powdered (with a coffee grinder if you have no mortar and pestle) and mixed with the wine in a sauce pan: 20g rosemary, 20g sage, 15g burdock root, 10g stinging nettle root, 20g yarrow leaf. While covered, let it cook until the wine boils, then take it out of the fire. Keep the cover in place, let it cool at ambient temperature. Filter and store in a corked bottle. All of it should be used, frictioning well, over the course of a tenday.
Oh, and if your husband should cringe at the thought of using such "witchcraft stuff", there are sabal based commercial lotions that also do the trick.
