I want one! They're so cute!!!!! BUT, I've heard from some people that they're not very safe if you get into an accident. Anyone know anything about this? Right now I'm driving a 1989 Toyota Camry. Sure, it lasts a long time, but it's really starting to make weird noises and do funny things. I am seriously considering getting a Mini, but at the same time those safety rumors scare me. Anybody have advice?

You can fit anywhere you want, you'll save a ton of gas money, and maybe it's so small it might be impossible to hit. ;D Can you imagine trying to run into a moving target that tiny? Now if you are going to run into to something yourself, you might get damaged. Just drive defensively and carefully. Did you read about them at edmonds.com Or is that edmunds. I always forget. But they might have safety ratings there. My daughter got rear ended in her Jetta soon after buying it and you should have seen the damage to the front end of the tank that hit her. Unless you knew she was in an accident, her $1000 worth of damage wasn't noticable. Size isn't everything....in cars or boobs. It's how it's all put together that counts.

Oh wowee, look. Now I want one.
Safety: All Minis come with four-wheel antilock disc brakes assisted by Electronic Brakeforce Distribution and Cornering Brake Control. The S model also includes traction control, and should you equip either model with the Sport package, you'll get Dynamic Stability Control. Other standard safety features include a flat-tire monitor, side airbags for front occupants and head curtain airbags for the front and rear. The Cooper earned four stars for frontal impacts in NHTSA crash testing and four stars for side impacts involving front occupants. In IIHS frontal offset crash testing, the Cooper earned a "Good" rating (the best) and was named a "Best Pick" among small cars.

Mini Cooper is cute... cute because it is small. In my country(I am from Asia) Mini Cooper is banned to get on highway because its body is too light to tolerate speeding. It could easily turn over not only when you are speeding but also when the weather is bad Even though Mini Cooper is technically equipped for safety, physically, its body is not strong enough to protect you. All the other cars out there are stronger than Mini Cooper, which means when someone crashes into your car, the chanses are your car will be the loser and you're not gonna make it. Sorry about all these negative input, but I do not think Mini Cooper is dependable. I had a car accident in a Nissan Sentra (which is also a compact car but bigger than Mini Cooper) last year and still clearly remember the impact of the crash conveyed through the wheel to my arms. My car was unfixable and had to be wrecked. Please, please choose a safe car !!! ayact

Thanks guys... I still kind of want one even though it can be a potential safety problem. I know that there are a good amount of people who race in Minis... not sure if they have a higher percentage of injury or not... but if people are racing with them, wouldn't it be because they have enough trust in the build of the car? Racers typically have a lot of knowledge about their car... Oh well, maybe it's just me trying to justify my intense desire for a little cute car.

If its not a mini van, its cute, cool and i want it. Went to a vintage car race this summer and saw some older minis. They were not fast, but they were darn cute. Sorry, I don't know about safety. Probably thought they get good gas mileage and are good for the environment. Stupid hubby insists on an suv for himself because he feels safe...for now. What about the future when we can't breath and have no petroleum resources left, etc, etc....In my mood, I would say go for it. Cars aren't forever. You can always trade it in or sell it on ebay. Happy driving. tea
