Just curious to see how many of us use the 'add 5' rule when shopping for bras.
What's your underbust measurement?
What's your bandsize you're wearing now?
I'll start: Underbust: 27" Current bandsize: 32" (but looking for 30" cause 32's too loose)
I've been researching sizing methods and have come to think that the 'add 5' rule is just horrible! Makes the band too big and loose and makes the cups smaller and not fit right. Try adding 2 or 3 to make an even number and see if you get a better fit. I know I will

Underbust: 29
32" band usually a little tight, 34" band a little too loose. I think I'm a 33" AA...so I think we ought to add 4" to get band size. tea

I go by the rule add if 4" if even, add 5" if odd. Also I do the above the boobs around the pits measurement for verification and it matches perfectly EVERYTIME! Okay underbust 29.5 Current Band 34 starting to ride up back even on the tightest hook. Underpit measurement 33" (like Tea, think a 32 would be too tight ) Starting back on BE next week, so I expect to gain some water especially in my underbust area. I lost another 1"- 1 1/2" off ribs after coming off BE for break. I had already dropped down to 31 from starting L-tyrosine to bring my temps from 95-97. Lost maybe a 1/2" hard to say cuz I kept bouncing from 10 1/4-10 1/2 prior to break. So I didn't loose much.

I also go by the 4" if even and 5" if odd rule like Momi. That seems to be what works best for me. My underbust is 28 so that puts me at 32 band size and that is what fits me best, 34 band is always too loose even on the last hook.
Oh, I also measured above the breasts, directly under the arms, to double check and that also puts me at 32 band.

Yep, those with an even measurement seem to have better luck with fit. I'm 29 and 34 sometimes seems to big on the tightest hook. A cups can be a bit too big, too. A 32 is WAY too tight on the farthest hook and A cup is too tiny around. And B cups are too deep. As with other clothes, I always seem to be between sizes. Does anyone else feel that way? Why can't they just make a 33 with cups scaled between the 32 and 34. Now there's an idea! I guess I'll just have to continue to try on every bra in the store and hope one fits. And when I go back for that style, I have to hope it hasn't been DC'd. Trying on bras is almost as hard as growing boobs.

I guess the add 5" works..however, when I go to do all my calcs for the cup size...I'm at least a cup smaller..which I'm happy to say isn't correct. The best means for being accurate, band size by meauring above breasts around body under arms. Then subtract that from bust meas. That's my cup. For the band...it's anywhere between the 34.5" and 36"..so I gotta try on whatever it is. Bad part is...manufacturers make cups and bands as they please

I've read that if your bandsize is bigger than your under armpit measurement then you are wearing a bandsize too big. And I agree, the in between sizes would be awesome!! Not too tight, not too big, just right

So, see! I'm screwed. I measured under the pits and I'm 33. That's 4 inches added to my under breast measurement. A 33 IS my band size. 32 is too tight with too tiny around cups. And these 34s just make it on the tightest hook. Which means after a little wear and stretch, they will be too big. Does this mean I need to keep a steady supply of brand new size 34 bras going? In order to keep the new stretchy fit?
Really either way of measuring a band size gives me a 33. No wonder I can't find bras to fit. If I loose a little weight I'll be TOO skinny. If I gain, I'll get it in the butt anyway.
What a losing battle. Ehh?

Me in the same Butt Boat there with ya' Mommabean! If I gain weight it's the butt or thighs...if I loose weight it's the top half of my body!

Adding 5" to my 27" underbust makes it 32. Seems like all the 32's I've tried makes the cups sit too far to the outside and rub under my armpits. I've ordered some 30's, hoping that the diameters are smaller and closer together and hopefully won't make the cups sit right under the armpits. Will update when they get here and let you guys know. I did get my 32DD in the other day, and happily try it on. To my disappointment the cups pushed me in enough to make me bubble up on top, around my pits and above the cups (2" worth). Plus, it squished me in the boob. Hey, I worked hard for these! I don't wanna push them IN!! So anyway, I ordered a 30G (since a 32DD=32E and has the same diameter as a 30F, and that woulda done the same thing this 32DD did) from London and hope it works better. Will let yall know, it's possible some are wearing bands too big and not even know it. Thanks for letting me ramble. The hunt continues.

If I do the add 5" rule, I get negative numbers.
*pouts and feels discouraged* Maybe it's more effective if someone else takes the measurements for me.

You know Shadow, I really think the most accurate measurements are measuring for band above the boobs, under the pits. That gives the band size, it has never been wrong for me ;D. Then do the 1", 2", 3", 4" difference from bust measurment. Like me above boobs measurement is 33, boobs 38, 34d. And it fits GREAT! Try that! Bust of LUCK! Happy Growin'

I am between 28.5 under breast so that should be a 34. When I measure under armpit it shows I'm a 32. At Victoria Secret and they said 34 but still not sure. I get back fat around the straps in the back. YUK! I asked the lady at Victoria Secret if that means I should go ahead and get a 36 band and she said no. Does this happen to anyone else. I hate the fat coming out between the straps!!!

Actually you are riding on the 32 mark...I also have this problem. My underarm measurement is 33, I wear a 34 at the smallest hook and still have a bit of ride up the back! But I KNOW a 32 would give me that "sausage links" look! And good luck finding a 32DD! I wear a 34D.
