Hi, my bottle of Wild Yam says "sublingual wild yam" but I'm not quite sure what that means. Can somebody explain this to me? Thanks!

Hi Lild, Sublingual means to put the tincture/extract in your mouth and swish it around. I gets into the blood stream faster! , since it does not go through the liver. DO NOT EAT OR DRINK anything for at least 20 mins after taking a tincture. Tinctures/Extract make EXCELLENT boobie batter too!

Also, since it goes straight to the bloodstream, then its potency is much highesr. Seems like the ratio of ticuture to dried herbs is 4:1. So, taking 400mg of ticuture is like 1600mg of dried herb.

In the directions on the back of the bottle, it says I should put the cap under my tongue for 3 to 5 minutes. What does that do? And is it necessary?

Hi Lild, It's so the tincture really soaks in. Swishing it around your mouth is more pleasant and should work the same. Is this Greenbush Enhancement Blend....YUCKY! I would do the most awful dance when I tried that stuff. And what a head rush! Bust of Luck!

"Sublingual" means, literally - "under the tongue".
(Sub = under, lingual = tongue)
By places the drops under your tongue, they will absorb through the soft tissues directly into the blood stream, rather than passing through the digestive tract. In the digestive tract, the herbs will be exposed to hydrochloric acid (stomach acid) which can degrade their potency. Also, they will have to compete in the stomach and intestines with everything else you've eating and drank in the last 12 hours. Fiberous foods can pass them through the system too fast to be absorbed completely. Fatty foods can also inhibit proper absorption. And last, but certainly not least, the phytoestrogens will be passed through the liver. The liver is designed to filter out and convert or destroy excess estrogen.
So - sublinguals are stronger, do no require as high a dosage as oral capsules.
If using drops, place them under your tongue and hold the there as long as you can. Before swallowing them, swish them around the rest of your mouth so they can be absorbed into the tissues. If they burn or are foul, you can sip and swish a little water afterward.
If you have a sublingual capsule - place the capsule under your tongue and allow it to dissolve completely before drinking or eating anything.
