I GAINED WEIGHT... SHOULD I SWITCH HERBS?
« Thread Started on Nov 1, 2009, 1:28pm »

Hi!
I started taking herbs 2 1/2 weeks ago. This is what I'm taking

Saw Palmetto 575 mg 2*3 times a day
Fenugreek 575 mg 2*3 times a day
Wild mexican yam 575 mg 2*3 times a day

These plus a massage of my fav. moisturizing cream with added fennel and fenugreek seeds. I apply a hot towel for 20 min after the massage.

I was planning of taking up to 3 pills of each herb 3 times daily after the first month, but I noticed i gained a little weight on my belly (WHICH I DIDN'T NEED AT ALL).

Since I read that saw palmetto can cause this i was planning on stopping that and continue with fenugreek and wild mexican yam. Should i do that? Should i add another herb since I'm quitting the saw palmetto? Can i still grow if I only take fenugreek and wild yam?

Btw, i have experienced pain on my breasts on certain days, but I'm not sure if it is because of the massage. I haven't noticed any major difference.

Thanks!

I think that we may be seeing a different problem here. Read this thread and see if you think that it applies.

1. Common sense and being in tune with ones body has the best track record.
No gadgets or occult practices (such as dowsing/divining) are required, or even effective.

2. Don't be fooled into thinking that fenugreek and massage are unnecessary. They are vital 99% of the time.

Thanks for answering :)

Well, i live in a tropical country, we have summer all year long... so, I don't know if that applies :/

I stop taking SP and my tummy is gone for good. I'm still taking fenugreek and wild yam but i'm not sure if that would be enough. Do you think I should start taking GABA and add the SP again? Or what do you think i should do?

Thanks again!

Are you still on yasmin? If you are taking it to address acne, not for BC, and you want to get off of it, you could try cod liver oil and flaxseed oils to address it.

If you are gaining weight on saw palmetto, then it could be a slow thyroid. I think that estrogen dominance could be a factor. Do you have any cycle related problems like short cycles, midcycle bleeding or painful ovulation? The reason I ask is to see how severe of estrogen dominance, and what type of estrogen dominant you might be.

Are you losing hair or feel tired and out of energy all the time?

Nop, i already stop taking any BC pill. I'm taking flaxseed oil and, until now, i haven't had any problem with acne.

Since my first period (when i was 11 yrs. old) I had a HORRIBLE time every month: painful periods, a lot of bleeding, nausea and I would even faint sometimes (I never had midcycle bleeding or short cycles, in fact, my cycles were long ones, I almost never got my period on time).

When I started taking Yasmin all that disappeared, I don't know what would happen this month now that I'm finally not taking any BC pills :/

I'm not losing hair nor I feel tired at all. I feel pretty good these days... the only problem is the "tummy factor" that appeared with saw palmetto.

Thanks for all your help!

Hello I am new in the forum but already 3 months on BE. I have some thyroid problems but saw palmetto goes very well on me! in fact before the program i was having tummy issues which seem to vanish as I spend more time on the program!

Hello again!
I totally forgot to mention in my previous post that when I started the program I also decided to do something about my diet. I have always been thin but gained fat in the abdomen and stomach area pretty easily. So ever since I started the herds I cut down on sugar and foods with gluten. Maybe this is a factor that combined with the herbs helped to the fat (and discomfort) loss! I hope this will be a helpful clue to some of you :)

Hello Masof,

How are things going?

>>"Do you think I should start taking GABA and add the SP again?"

Yep. Sometimes the stomach fat is just part of the price to pay and you can take it off later. The stomach fat you are seeing could be from a diet that is high in carbs as Bug was suggesting. This is the case a lot of the time. Some of that could also be genetic. It may just be that you need to increase your exercise. Do you have a good protein intake?

I don't have a diet high in carbs and I eat a lot of meat daily. I do cardio 4 times per week. Maybe is genetic as you stated :(
I think you are right and i would have to take off that stomach fat later. For now I'm doing alright, I think i'm slowly seeing changes (I think i have a little more cleavage, but I don't feel any grow sensations anymore).

I guess I will do the following:
I will keep taking 2 pills of fenugreek and 2 pills of wild mexican yam/ 3 times daily until my period (that is due the 19 of this month), then I will start taking 3 pills of each/3 times daily and I'll check if I see any results.
If not I will add, for my third month of NBE, Saw Palmetto again along with GABA.

Does this sounds like a good idea to you?

BTW, I took a pic of my breasts when i started and I'm writing a diary of my NBE journey. If i see some results I will post all that here :)

Thanks again!

You don't need to feel sensations necessarily. If you are seeing results then you should keep doing what you are doing.

Just as an observation, if you are 110 lbs and a small 32B, I would say that your dosages are too high were it not for the fact that it seems to be working.

Rather than going to 3 three times daily, just add the saw palmetto and GABA but keep it at 2 X 3. You might also add MSM. I think 2000mg three times daily would be a good addition.

Thanks again!

Hi!
I haven't add the Saw Palmetto, GABA and MSM because i haven't got my period, I'm 1 week late and I'm sure I'm not pregnant.
I did a little research and I found out that, after quitting BC, your hormone levels go crazy and sometimes you don't get your period for over 3 months... Oh well, I can wait.
My questions are:

1) Should I wait for my period to add the SP, GABA and MSM or can I do it now?
2) My breasts are rounder and firmer, I get a slight pain sometimes... those these means that NBE is working even if my hormones are crazy at the time?
3) What is MSM exactly for?

Thanks again, you have helped me soooo much!

The best days to take pictures/measure/try clothes are mid cycle days or day 10. But pictures can be very tricky to do correctly to show growth. A better way to go is to use the same bra or swimsuit or top and see how it fits each month on those days. Pictures can be good if done in a standardized way, but the growth really has to be significant to show up. Sometimes there is growth that you know is there but does not show up on the picture, such as an increase in density. The other method is far better and less subjective.
